Since the year is heading out of the frigid months and into the balmy months, and I haven’t talked to myself on here in a while, I figured why not?
This year has been weird. I went from being hopeless and not wanting to do anything with my life to it quickly becoming the best year of my life. What’s made it so good? Changes. Changes that may or may not have been foreseen. Honestly, I am super hyped about the direction that my life is going to be taking fairly soon.
Should I elaborate? Well, I want to but I can’t right now.
What I do want to make sure of is that you’re all ready for this. I’m going to take the next step. I’m going to change for the better. I’m making my change starting…wait for it…wwwaaaaiiiiitttt…Nnnnnot now…NOW! Right here, right now. I’ve had enough of this “Wait and see” approach that I’ve lived with my adult life. The horns are within my grasp, the bull isn’t watching, I’m going to grab them. I will be better. I am better. It’s happening.
This is my friend and co-worker Ryan he is an excellent self-taught musician and an awesome guy! I have been talking with him lately on getting his music out there and into people’s lives. He is all for getting his passion out there and it is actually very, very refreshing hearing someone talk about their passion like he does. He has been living creatively through his music for the last few years and he is exactly the type of person I would want to associate my brand with. In the following few days, we’re going to be setting up his Twitch account so he can play his music live to an audience. Also, I’m going to see his thoughts on other things such as YouTube, live streaming some of his shows on Facebook, pretty much just getting his voice out there. So, without any further interruptions, here he is covering the song “Between Two Worlds” by nevershoutnever
UPDATE: STAY CREATIVE 2019
Ryan has been hard at work, writing for his new album. So far he is finishing up his 10th song and is going to start recording very soon. In this endeavor of building his brand and his musical career, we’ve decided to join forces. With his talent and my uhhh “character” we are hoping to make 2019 our year. 2018 saw the birth of our creative experiences and processes and 2019 is going to be even bigger. In the past few days, we’ve designed him a new logo, we’ve begun recording his first songs and we’ve taken steps to become more socially connected. I included his links below for Twitter and Twitch please if you will, follow him and keep up to date with what’s happening. Stay creative. Stay hungry.

So, here’s the thing. Consumers need us to tell them: What they want, why they want it. Whether it’s car insurance or a set of spoons they need us as marketers to show them the value. There are multiple different ways to portray that to consumer’s but it’s always important to know what really goes into it. Here’s a little something I whipped up for just this occasion, I hope you enjoy and don’t forget to tip your waiter.
Well, that sure was something wasn’t it? I hope that with that information you can go forward and have a working knowledge or at least plenty of definitions when it comes to what goes into comprehension in marketing.
This is my challenge to you!
Keep an eye out for an ad when you’re doing something like watching television, browsing a website or even scrolling social media. Examine the ad. What are you taking from the ad? Is it right in your face? How is it being marketed to you? Is it being brought to you by something or someone familiar? Just take a step back and really look at the ad for a second and see if you can distinguish the marketer’s tone or intentions beyond just selling you something. It may or may not change your viewing habits from now on.
Like with the other semesters and everything else in my life, I could do it on my own time, my own way. My thought was that I had enough energy and brain power to effectively manage a social life, work life, home life and school work. It didn’t happen that way, unfortunately.
My social life isn’t something to write about, trust me. I’ve had the same 4 people (my mom and brother count right?) that I have talked to for the last few years with my new work friends sprinkled in. Not having much to begin with probably helped not losing much. There, I wrote about it.
The problem was that my social life bled too much into my work life and made it suffer. It was as if I couldn’t do things without upsetting people that lead to me thinking too much about my work life which burnt me out too fast. I liked my job, I liked the money that it gave me more, but I still liked my job nonetheless. It was easy and a change of pace to the late night, always busy, knock you in your teeth world that was Toppers Pizza management. I can elaborate more on that if people want in a different post.
Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled program.
I thought I had the answers to everything and thought that I would be able to skate by and fool the world into thinking I was this one of a kind he can build a brand, do school, work, socializing, streaming, wonderful person that I just couldn’t be. I wanted to be better than myself and that leads to my next topic.
What I learned:
This semester I learned that I took too many things for granted an I tried too hard to put other people before my self. I tried working as many hours as I could, burning myself out in the process and making my journey to the end of the semester harder to get to.
I was so obsessed with not being “that guy” (ya know, the bum that just goes to class and doesn’t have a job.) that I put most of my energy into work that it ultimately lead to me dropping a class. Not just any class, the main math class that I need to graduate. Another thing is that I was doing it online which meant EXTRA time to really focus on homework and learning. I didn’t do that. Instead, I put others before myself and just thought that I would do it later but later would never come.
DON’T BE “THAT GUY” BE “YOUR OWN GUY” HE’S MUCH COOLER
I tried my best to catch up on things here and there. I caught all the way up in one instance and went past where I was. But, it was all for nothing. I ended up dropping the class after finding out that I needed to pass every assignment, every quiz, and every test with 100% that is no wrong answer on anything on things that I couldn’t redo. It wasn’t going to happen even with my best intentions. I begged and pleaded with my instructor to accept some late work but she wouldn’t oblige and I had no other option but to drop my class, a class that my funding had already paid for.
Which leads me to a whole new dilemma: What am I supposed to tell the people helping me out? I’m opting for honesty and truth because that’s the only way that I can deal with people and hope that they show some mercy. That’s all up in the air for now.
My semester finished strong earning a C, an AB and 2 A’s to go along with my withdrawal grade. There are 2 weeks until my new semester starts. I’m looking forward to proving people wrong. Along with my new found school work ethic and willpower, I’m ready to show everyone that there really is a NEW ME. It will be a struggle, and I will constantly have to remind myself that I should impress myself before trying to impress others. I’m still learning to do so and maybe someday I will put it into practice. But until then, it’s going to remain a battle.
This article was an absolute roller coaster! I came in thinking mostly about the brand, which I guess already kind of proves the whole point of the video, but what people don’t really think of sometimes is that there are people behind these ideas. I mean there are obviously people involved but do you think of a room full of people with suits with graphs on easels pointing out things about the fiscal quarter or someone like Kate Santore sitting there thinking how are we going to tell a story? I think you can tell which one I thought of (hint: longer thought)
“Can I tell this story without Coca-Cola?” – Kate Santore
I think that this can be adopted by any type of branding or storytelling. Is my part of this story relevant to what is trying to be said? I think the answer, to me anyway, would most likely just have to be a yes. I think that it’s the adaptability or the “yes” to the question, will make you survive the longest. Also, just including a “what-if” scenario into your life, you already are looking at things from a different direction. Asking what if before you start to think about situations will get your mind running and most likely in a creative and productive mindset.
What if the possibilities were endless?
There’s always a silver lining to a situation that can be thought of in times and the “What if” question to begin it is almost always necessary to stay focused and inspired.
Sometimes inspiration can come from a myriad of places.
In this instance, it was from an interview and video talking about Coca-Cola and it’s marketing strategy. If you would like to read this, follow the link provided and be sure to find some inspiration in it.
So, today is the last day of 2017 first of all, CONGRATULATIONS! A lot of things went wrong in 2017 but focusing on the negatives will just breed bad thoughts and bad feelings about your year. I mean do what you want to do, if you’re relieved that the year is over and are looking forward to 2018, I encourage it! I myself had a really stressful, horrendous at times year, but I don’t think that some of those things that happened were bad, I look at them as opportunities. If my year wouldn’t have started out with me being fired from my previous job, I would have never wound up in school, never would’ve looked into marketing, or let alone been inspired to be creative and think creatively. If my car accident wouldn’t have happened, I would still be living life as if it were normal and not a spectacular thing, I wouldn’t value my self-worth as much as I have lately.
I know, I know, I’m rambling. Anyway, ON TO THE RESOLUTIONS!
I want to do something this year that is DIFFERENT. I want to try some hairstyle or some sort of fashion choice that is new to me and makes me uncomfortable. If I don’t challenge myself, who will?
Continue to make better decisions as far as health and money is concerned. I want to continue my diet and exercise routine and possibly increase it or go in harder on it. I want to be a whole new person by the end of next year.
I want to learn something new. Not like school, I want to learn a skill or start to learn how to do something that I’m interested in. I have been dabbling in photoshop recently and would really like to continue learning that.
My last resolution isn’t really something too different. I want to continue to learn to appreciate myself, the things that I do, and continue to live creatively. I want to continue expanding my Twitch streams into new territories, upload and continue to make my YouTube channel successful.
Please don’t waste the rest of 2017! Please stay safe heading into the new year! I know that 2018 will be a great year for everyone! Set your mind to something and you can accomplish it, trust me. Use your output to inspire people’s input. Create. Inspire. Be happy. Be hopeful.
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” -Neil Gaiman
Next week, I will update you with a complete list of my new year’s resolutions! Stay tuned!
I’ve been playing close attention lately to people who do marketing in some way or another for their jobs. Be it people who make videos on YouTube or people who work for businesses as marketing reps. I’ve been realizing that marketing is a huge part of a lot of things that I didn’t think of before. When I was having a conversation with my musically talented friend the other day, he was saying that he doesn’t want to go to school for something like marketing because there is no such thing as “The world’s best marketer.” I had to stop him before he got too far, I explained to him that in the position that he was in, that he was thinking about marketing all wrong. He thought that marketers made slogans and tag lines or something. I had to tell him that him being an artist is a marketer himself. He has to go out and not just let his music and his talent speak for itself, he had to go tell everyone why he was good. I told him that you hear of people like top YouTubers, and other internet personalities, and you don’t automatically think that they’re marketers but they are. Maybe not in the traditional sense of things, they aren’t going out and making advertisements on billboards or print but they are supporting their craft and what they do by getting their names out there. Like a marketer. I know that some people have feelings about it, but I think that YouTubers are the luckiest bunch of people out there. They get to do what they want for a living and they get a free education in marketing. Lucky.
So I presented the website. Cool, right? Well, not exactly. I was really confident in my website when I made it, honestly, I thought it would be a very good one. And then I saw everyone else’s websites and man, like I said in my presentation, mine looked like a MySpace page compared to some peoples! I know that it is my first attempt at doing anything like this but JEEEEZZZ! calm down everyone else you’re making me look bad. It wasn’t that hard, but still.
